Brush aside any fear of putting your story into words with the support and guidance of Ron and his writing group. A workbook, $10, is available to help you on your way.
Whether the memory is funny enough to make you laugh, happy enough to bring your joy, or scary enough to require a
little support, the Write It Now group is where you need to be.

The first hour of sessions 1 to 3 is dedicated to beginners. This is a perfect time to learn the basics of photography from Club members and learn how to master your own camera. You may continue to develop your skills by becoming part of the Photo Club activities. We share photos with fellow members; discuss and offer tips on photo challenges; present various topics of interest chosen by our members, and occasionally go on field trips. Share, learn, and enjoy the beauty of the world around us!

In past offerings we have examined the question ‘EVIL’ in great detail. But now, what about the ‘GOOD’ which is the other side of the coin? In this second offering on the ‘Good’ we will reflect on how our civilization has defined the ‘Good Life’. As Aristotle said 2500 years ago, “all humans desire happiness” through a good life fully lived. No pre-requisite necessary.

Traveling to Glengarry Encore to present 2 well-attended sessions on organic farming, Josh has now turned the tables by inviting you to visit his family’s ‘New Care Farms’, near Iroquois. Visit the cows out on pasture and learn about their milking facilities; from a visitor viewing hall with a multi-story processing room, witness the production of organic probiotic yogurt. The Biemonds have kindly offered the use of their on-site kitchen for those who wish to bring a picnic lunch.

Share your passion for woodcarving, no matter what your skill level. Begin your project, or come with one you have already begun, and participate in the fellowship of amateur and professional alike. Michel, an expert carver and recipient of several awards, will help you discover the joy of carving.

If you’re using a Windows Operating System, after the first few months with the new Windows 10, you’re probably
having fun trying to deal with it. We may not be able to solve all of your computer issues, however, we can help you get
started with the basics of Windows 10. Let’s face it, Windows 10 is it. There will not be any Windows 11, or 12, etc.
Windows 10 may become simply ‘Windows’ and computer life as we know it.

This session will begin with a review of C scale and its chords, then develop the relative minor scale and related chords.
What is learned in C will be transposed into other keys. We will develop the structure of basic chords to be played as
triads, in standard position, and as barre chords. Select your own pieces of music and you will be assisted in learning the
melody, accompaniment, and beginnings of ‘melody-chord’ arrangement. From week 2, you are encouraged to play in
front of the class, but not obliged to do so. Class consists of theory and practice … thus requires commitment to practice
at home. Student must have tunable, playable guitar; electronic tuner recommended.

Motivation is key to writing. Meet every two weeks to share excerpts from your works in progress. Focus on fiction,
exchange tips and information; discuss conventions such as character, plot, narrative and tone. The ‘Writers Tool Kit’,
provided by Lesley, gives you tips, strategies, and some exercises designed to spark imagination and polish craft. There
will be opportunities to share detailed and helpful critiques: actionable ways to improve our writing. Learn from
informed feedback with the support and encouragement from fellow writers.

Even if you ‘cannot draw a straight line with a ruler’, release your inner artist by exploring acrylic paints. A little theory –
colour, composition, creativity, and lots of hand-on experimenting. Yvonne is a professional artist with almost 20 years
experience. She looks forward to sharing tips and offering guidance, even if you’ve never touched a paint brush! Please
ask for list of supplies required by participants at Registration.

harmony’, as Carl G. Jung imparted, ‘to be whole’. Darlene is a 12-year REIKI and IET (Integrated Energy Therapy)
practitioner with a background of Native American and Hindu/Buddha teachings. Be kind to yourself this afternoon, join
Darlene as she demonstrates one of the oldest and most natural forms of healing.

According to Quantum Messenger, David Rawnsley, “there is ample proof of the existence of God in the quantum
world.” The ‘QM’ says that in this world of uncertainty, miracles can, do, and must happen. In a presentation of reuniting
science with spirituality, the ‘QM’ explains how thoughts may be the most potent power we possess. He concludes with
detailed information as to how one can use those thoughts to make a difference in their lives. David, a retired
International Management Consultant, has been an active Glengarry Encore presenter. David is also the author of 2
books (by Treehaven Publishers): ‘The Journey, From Science to Spirituality’ and ‘Intention and Influence: The Act of
Making a Difference’.

Naughty language has been around since Roman times. Many of us know how helpful certain words are when one
strikes their thumb with a hammer. Yet, there must be something beyond what a word denotes that would categorize it
as profanity. Refer to the title of this presentation, exactly what does this word imply? Tracing its etymology, Brendan
found this word is not what it seems…or, is that just ‘bull.…’? Let’s get together and discover what makes a ‘cuss’ word, a
‘cuss’ word!

to read and discuss an interesting book from a mix of literary genres. Discuss highlights of the book and expound upon
your own observations as you enjoy coffee/tea and cookies. The last meeting in June each year, members choose their
book list.

craft of clay/porcelain pottery. Learn about the diversity of clay, glazing, electric and wood-burning kilns, and much

demonstration will be presented beginning with raw clay to finished product.

The Round Towers of Ireland, built in the 8 th – 12 th Centuries, in heights of 18 – 40 meters, according to archeologists and
historians were refuges during the Viking and Gaelic attacks on Irish Christian monasteries. However, to the mystically
inclined, the towers hold much deeper secrets. The towers, although conducive to worship, are also tuned into by plants
and insects; the Towers promote plant growth and good health. Bob’s presentation will explain this perspective, as well
as, include evidence that shows how a model of the ‘round towers’ acts as an aura detector.

mesmerized by the magnificent ivory-white marble of the Taj Mahal in Agara, a tomb dedicated by Emperor Mumtag, to
his favourite wife. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit one of India’s famous bird sanctuaries, not only because of its
panoramic scenery, but because of the diverse, exotic bird species living within it. Enjoy a beautiful journey to India!

Austrian born, Franz Peter Schubert, was one of the greatest composers of the 19 th Century (1797-1828), whose work
was recognized for bridging classical and romantic composition. You are invited to a chapel uniquely suited to help you
appreciate music of great composers. Accompany Chris as he leads you through 3 stages of Schubert’s life: ‘The
Beginning’; ‘Heavenly Lengths’ and the conclusion, ‘Unfinished Business’. Please enjoy, relax, and appreciate the
extensive recordings of Schubert’s 7 symphonies and his 3 unfinished works. Leaving this presentation, you have an
understanding of the historical and cultural context of the compositions.

One of the most popular places in Thailand is Koh Phangan. Why? Because it attracts over 20,000 people to a beach
party held at every full moon. We aren’t having a beach party, and this date does not have a full moon, however, we are very pleased to have Chef Margaret to demonstrate some Thai recipes that promise to put you in full moon mood. Join us for Thai hot and sour soup, red curry with chicken, and a Thai fried noodle dish. ‘Good food means good mood!’

opportunity to travel, and spellbinding stories about special stones are what ‘rockhounds’, Gerry and Huguette, want to share with you. If you thought the subject of geology was dry, be prepared to learn otherwise.

In 1892, life was very different in Glengarry. However, many of the difficult, the good, and historical stories of this County were recorded and saved for us in the 1892 edition of ‘The Glengarry News’. A ‘few of us’ will remember select experiences, and the ‘new of us’ will be interested in hearing about them. Alan, our County Archivist, will connect us with days gone by in tales of: the County’s main industry; modes of travel; working languages of the day; excitement and entertainment; no cell phones or Facebook, how did people hear about their neighbours? Alan has a plethora of historical, humorous, and personal stories to relate. Please join us for a most entertaining journey of Glengarry life, 1892!

How would you react to a request from an elderly parent asking for help and support? Could you manage that request
without having to quit your job, or have that decision impact your career? What would be helpful for you to know or consider, before making that decision? Jean-François, care-giver to his elderly mother for 14 years, published his book, ‘Lasting Touch’, highlighting the experiences and insights learned on this journey. Many tips and suggestions ensuring comfort were discovered along the way.

In these sessions we will discuss Jane Jacobs’s book, ‘Systems of Survival’. Participants will be invited to read selected
chapters of the book in preparation for the sessions. Jacobs is famous for her efforts to understand the ‘logic’ of
community relations and community ‘systems’. She investigates how these ‘systems’ provide a basis for an ethics that
would be appropriate for living within these systems. Ken will help you situate Jacobs’s book within some broader social
and historical trends and conversations in ethics.

The ‘Third Act’ is defined as the later decades of one’s life. In these decades, one has the opportunity to explore an

understanding of the stages of this transition and explore the possibilities of creating a meaningful and engaging Third

Mah Jongg is an ancient Chinese game. The Mah Jongg version Claudia will teach you is called, ‘American Mah Jongg’,
quite different from the original. This game is based on logic, skill, and of course, luck. You will have fun thinking,
planning, and scheming! If you ever watched the TV show, ‘Rhoda’, you may remember her mother, Ida, who was
constantly playing Mah Jongg. Come, learn how to play! Just be careful, Mah Jongg is addictive!

In acknowledgement of Remembrance Day, Chris welcomes you to a former chapel, now his home, for a presentation of
Benjamin Britten’s recording of his 20 th Century masterpiece, ‘War Requiem’. Benjamin Britten was an English composer,
conductor and pianist who wrote a range of works that included: opera, vocal music, orchestral and chamber pieces.
‘War Requiem’ was written for the reconsecration of the Coventry Cathedral, destroyed during the Battle of Britain in
WW II. Britten intended this 90-minute piece to be a warning to future generations of taking up arms against fellow

Receiving a pass to trek through Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland, is not an easy task. Matthew and Rachelle,
with intensive hard work and training, managed to meet all the physical and survival criteria required to attain their ‘trip
of a lifetime’. Now, only courage was required to carry on. There would be no wilderness guide; minimal trail markings;
encounters with wild animals; brush of all kinds and treks through swamplands. All these challenges were embraced
with joy and in accomplishment of the most amazing adventure of a lifetime! Pull up your chair and share a special trip
through Canada’s 485 million year old heritage site.

It’s a shame to throw old books away, especially when you’ve enjoyed their content. There is a solution…make
something with these books that you can still enjoy! Anne will demonstrate a simple method which will turn an old book
into a beautiful angel, and/or, an endearing little hedgehog. Samples of both were on display at our Annual General
Meeting where they received a lot of interest. Please bring: 1 hardcover-book (180-200 pages) for the angel, 1 pocket-
book (200 pages) for the hedgehog, a glue gun and glue sticks. Remaining materials will be supplied by Anna. It’s easy,
fun and cost efficient. Best of all, it makes a lovely gift.
